The presenter for the September Main Meeting Joshua Carr, Product Manager for Retail Notebooks at Asus, explained that the name Asus came from Pegasus - The God of Speed, Art and Learning -'Nimble, faithful and consistent'.

On show were several types of notebooks from the new slimline to the new Eee PC, all with great features. One being the battery life of the latest machines some - offering 11 hours, which is great as one can fly from London to the USA and still have ample battery life to keep on working, and secondly the light weight of these latest models. There is also face recognition and finger security for logging on.

Our thanks to Joshua for supplying all the great Asus prizes.

    Sunday 30 August - Membership Drive - 10 am - 3 pm
    Roundhouse, University of Sydney

The Membership Committee will be hosting another stall at the Roundhouse on Sunday, this will be the last for the year and it is hoped that members will make themselves available to come along and help in promoting the benefits of the SPCUG. Whilst there you can also wander around the multitude of stalls with all their inviting 'bits n pieces'. Parking is available please see map.

    Saturday 5 September - Penrith - Frank Bowman - 2 pm - 5 pm
St Clair High School, Endeavour Avenue, St Clair

The session will start with the usual Q and A session around the table, where we share problems, advice and tips. Also the use of some flash disks as Ready Boost RAM with Vista will be shown. QBasic is not used much these days, but we'll see how well we can run some simple programs with XP and Vista.

We will take a look at Microsoft's new search engine 'Bing' and look at a number of ways to download videos from YouTube.

    Tip of the Week

Stardock - Fences is a program that helps you organise your desktop, and can hide your icons when they're not in use. It's FREE for personal use, so try it out today, and change how you use your desktop forever!

Double click your desktop, and all your icons will fade out. Double click again, and they'll return. Check out the video on the Stardock link above.

So until next week, health and happiness,

    Cheers

    Elaine
