Upcoming SIG'S
1 - 7 February 2009
  • Penrith

Hello and Welcome,

Alex has once again acquired some top line presenters for the first couple of months of this year, please read on to see what has been arranged, mark your calendars and hope to see you all there.

Main Meeting - Tuesday 27 January 2009 - 6 pm - 8 pm
Information Alex Zaharou-Reutt:-

It's 2009, and the Sydney PC Users Group is starting off the year with a bang!

Our January main meeting guest is Dell Computers, who are coming along to tell us about the amazing netbook phenomenon, with netbooks proving enormously popular last year, and even more so this year!

We'll learn about the Dell Mini 9, the Mini 12 and the upcoming Mini 10 - and Dell are offering a Dell Mini 9 as a raffle prize on the night! This model is worth over $700 and is one of the most popular netbooks out there.

Dell are trying to ensure they bring one on the night for the winner to take away, but in case they can't it will be sent very soon after. The only way you can win one is to come to the January main meeting, learn about them, buy a few tickets and be in it to win it!

Dell will also fill us in on other developments but will focus on netbooks, which have taken the world by storm. I've even been able to very successfully install Windows 7 beta 1 on a Mini 9 netbook I've been testing and it runs even better than the Windows XP it comes pre-loaded with!

On that note - a request to anyone that has downloaded the Windows 7 beta - if you have, can you please burn a few copies onto some spare DVDs and bring them along to the main meeting? I'd bring some myself, but I can't stick them through the video camera on Skype. I know at least one member would love to try it out but doesn't have 2.5GB of spare capacity on their download limit, and given that Windows 7 is in beta and it's free to use until launch, anyone able to share their Windows 7 beta download will be helping other members out.

February has Symantec booked in to tell us about Norton 360 version 3.0, their fastest and lowest-impact Internet security package yet, March has "Syntec" coming, a distributor of an amazing array of accessories (including Sennheiser gear) and for April, we've asked Microsoft to come along to demonstrate Windows 7 beta 1 and their other developments, so while Microsoft hasn't 100% confirmed as yet (but are expected to soon), February and March are locked in.

So - see you at the January main meeting, where Dell starts off our year with a fantastic presentation and the very generous offer of a netbook for our main meeting raffle prize!
