Hello nad Welcome,

Please don't forget to have a look at the trial website with whatever browser you use and have your opinions for/against ready for the 10 minute review at the next Main Meeting, Tuesday 24 February 2008.

Once again a huge night has been arranged by Alex and he has provided the following information:

Symantec is coming along to the Sydney PC User Group's February Main Meeting, with news of Norton 360 Version 3.0 (N360 V3), and the rebirth of Norton Utilities with new software following the acquisition of Australian PC software company, PC Tools.

N360 V3 builds upon the technological advances in Norton Internet Security 2009 (NIS 2009). Having the same software base as NIS 2009, it has the same anti-virus and firewall but adds backup software, Norton Safe Web and some PC tune-up software.

Installing in "less than a minute" and having the same ultra low performance impact characteristics, N360 V3 is much faster than its predecessor and competing products and helps ensure Symantec stays in the No.1 spot along with NIS 2009.

Symantec's consumer product marketing manager David Hall will give us a demo of the newest Norton 360 Version 3.0 software, after which we'll see the brand new Norton Utilities.

Totally redesigned from the original versions and built on the utilities and clean-up software from PC Tools, David will show us some of its features, which from an online description includes

  • Startup Manager & Services Manager - Manages programs configured to run at system start-up.
  • Registry Cleaner - Cleans the registry of unnecessary entries created during the installation, de-installation and normal work on the PC.
  • Registry Defragmenter - Analyses the registry for errors and rebuilds it completely from scratch if needed. Defragments and corrects any structural errors.
  • Disk Cleaner - Scrubs the hard disk of temporary files, Internet cookies, and other junk data.
  • Performance Test - Benchmarks a PC using a variety of different speed tests and compares the results before and after changes.

Symantec are also kindly donating some copies for our Raffle.

So... come along to the Main Meeting, see your fellow PC and technology using friends, and have some fun learning the latest new hardware and software, cool new technological developments, and a range of intriguing new web sites, followed by your computer questions answered in our traditional live Q&A format.

Then, after the break, learn about the latest in Symantec's Internet security and "utilities" software, hear about the growth of "the underground economy" and be in the raffle for your chance to win on the night!

Stop Press: Alex will be in transit from the Gold Coast to Sydney, time permitting he may just be able to be with us in person, if not, we will definitely see him next month as he is returning to Sydney permanently.

Tip of the Week

WinBubble  is an easy-to-use tweaking utility that focuses on enhancing your Windows Vista Experience. WinBubble will help you to change your original Equipment Manufacturer's Information and Logo without knowing the registry tricks.

This utility is not exactly earth-shattering, but it sure beats editing the Registry by hand.

Please remember if your e-mail address is changed for any reason at all, unless you tell me your new address then you will not receive these weekly updates! Any change of address should be notified to changedetails@sydneypc.com

So until next week, health and happiness.

Cheers

Elaine
