Hello and Welcome,

Firstly, thanks to those of you who attended the Annual General Meeting. The club said a fond farewell to two long serving Committee Members namely Alan Durham and Russell Field and it is hoped that they will continue to come and partake in the activities of the club as time permits.

We welcome one new face to our Committee, whom I'm sure you all know from the well run Friday Seniors SIG namely Bill Parry.

We also send a 'cheerio' call to our favourite Membership Officer, who unfortunately could not attend as he is having a little sojourn at Mona Vale Hospital, we all wish you a speedy recovery Mark.

What can one say regarding the Windows 7 presentation by Jeff Alexander,   who gave us a comprehensive insight into the new Windows. I'm sure that most of us will be looking forward to either RC1 to be released on 5 May 2009 or the real thing ? to take advantage of all the new additions.

Windows XP users were shown using Microsoft Deployment Kit 2010 how quickly one can move to Windows 7, the procedure took 27 minutes which was impressive.

Our thanks to Jeff and Microsoft.

Friday 8 May - Seniors - Bill Parry - 10 am - 12 noon

Bill has a couple things in mind for you. He wants to talk about the 'common and garden' USB...past, present and future. There will also be an introduction to a free malware program that comes with lots of recommendations and from Bill's point of view, lives up to them!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Friday 8 May - Communications - Terry Eakin - 1 pm - 3 pm
Terry has a problem with printing maps, which he would like to have someone  with experience give him and other members a lesson on how to print a section of a map from the screen. If there is anyone prepared to assist with this exercise, please let Terry know so that a spot will be allotted to you.
The main topic  will be eliminating junk and phishing emails. What you can do about the various scam bank memos and Nigerian letters wanting personal details.
Tips of the Week
AVG Logo AVG LinkScanner is back as an independent plug-in (free) and works much the same as the original one did. LinkScanner evaluates link safety on the fly, as well as making click throughs for dangerous sites much harder.
Net Usage Item displays a progress bar of your internet usage on your Firefox Toolbar. Extension needs to be modified to support different ISP's, so only a limited number of ISP's are available.
Two Special Offers for PC Authority Readers
Cebit Offer1. Complementary entry to CeBIT Australia 2009 Exhibition.
2. Special discount on conferences.
Hurry, this offer ends on Friday 1 May.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Please remember if your e-mail address is changed for any reason at all, unless you tell me your new address then you will not receive these weekly updates! Any change of address should be notified to changedetails@sydneypc.com

So until next week,

Cheers

Elaine
