ASCCA
CONFERENCE 2009

All the presentations are now available from the ASCCA site in Word, PDF and Powerpoint form...

Hello and Welcome,

Vale - Colin Bolton - 7 September 2009

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of Colin Bolton. Those of you who knew Colin will remember
he was a  member of the SPCUG for many years and one who worked very hard for us. Before he had his throat cancer surgery he ran the Friday Seniors SIG for years and was not only a good presenter but he put a lot of work into researching computer related information for us.  Even after the surgery, and without a voicebox, he still gave the occasional professional presentation.

Monday 14 Sept. - Stocks & Shares - Malcolm Robertson - 6pm - 8pm

This week the ASX has been up above 4,500. More people are bullish. Some however feel there could be a good fall in the next few weeks, before rising again, at least until the end of the year.

Malcolm will present the views of different people with some good graphs.

We will look at some Listed Managed Investments (on the ASX) and also take a further look at some financial websites.

Tuesday 15 Sept. - Seniors - Graham Grant - 10am - 12 noon

This Tuesday's SIG will start with the usual Q & A, so if you have any problems or questions please have them ready. We will also have further discussions on the new computer.

The use of Mozilla Thunderbird as a replacement for Outlook Express will be discussed.

We can also talk about running a "Virtual XP" in Windows 7.

Tuesday 15 Sept. - Genealogy - Terry Eakin - 1pm - 3pm

This month we will talk about the 1911 census of Ireland which is now complete online with free access to all original scanned documents. Persons recorded here often were born prior to 1830 and as early as 1807 (aged 104 years on census day). You may find living (in 1911) relatives by using this site and perhaps descendants are still in that town-land.

Saturday 19 Sept. - Web Design - Robert Hume - 2pm - 4pm

Warren asked if we could look into how to add a video file into Fusion 9, he supplied us with a file with an extension of flv. We had no luck at all getting this file to work. Peter to the rescue, he had a conversion program and converted the file to a mpeg. This video is now visible on the Websig site.

This month we will look at Firefox and possibly install it, we will also upload the Web Design SIG files to the new computer.

Tip of the Week

FotoSketcher turns digital photos into beautiful pencil sketches or paintings in seconds. FotoSketcher can create images that look like they have been hand drawn by the best artists.

FotoSketcher is fast, fun, easy and free.
Users having any difficulties will find an informative Help file that walks you through the process.

So until next week, health and happiness,

Cheers

Elaine
