Hello and Welcome,
Last month our youngest prospective member
attended a meeting of the Programming SIG to witness a video showing her
design work.
Next week, young and not so young will meet again
at the Programming, Seniors and Communications SIGs. Details are
below.
Tuesday 8 March - Programming
- N. Hoffman - 5:30pm - 8:30pm
At the February meeting we linked by Skype to
Martin, who is visiting Indonesia. He showed us photos of electronics
shops in Jakarta, where everything is cheap. By screen-sharing, he was
able to watch and hear the proceedings at our meeting.
We discussed the PIC LICK-1, a Talking Electronics kit. It is a PCB containing a PIC16F84, with its inputs buffered with resistors and its outputs buffered with transistors. It is a template for PIC projects; when you get an idea working on the PIC LICK-1 the circuit can be drawn as a new PC board. Andrew described a problem in programming PIC24 chips. Christopher showed us a Peltier TEC1-11710 , and we discussed his idea of using it to measure wind speed. David showed us a video of an LED mobile designed by his daughter Bianca, 4, who also attended the meeting.
Neville Hoffman
Friday 11 March - Seniors - Leader -
9:30am - 12:30pm
Graham Grant will lead the group on Friday.
Graham will hold the usual question and answer
session before demonstrating some small utilities.
Members are also welcome to demonstrate any
utilities they think the group will find interesting at this
meeting.
Friday 11 March - Communications
- J. Lucke - 12:30pm - 3:30pm
This meeting will begin with a
question and answer session and general communications
discussion. John will then test an
interesting website for exposing the source of those seemingly authentic
but dubious emails we all receive.
After the coffee break, the group will
compare all the popular web browsers and their special features. The
group will also look at customizing browsers with all manner of
add-ons and toolbars.
