Vale William Robertson

Members will be saddened to learn of the death of William (Cargill) Robertson.

William Robertson was a regular attendee at the Friday Seniors SIG meetings until ill health prevented his further participation some eighteen months ago.

He was as quietly spoken "gentle man" whose contributions to the meetings were both relevant and welcomed. He died on Monday aged 86.

Hello and Welcome,

The Annual General meeting is being held on Tuesday night prior to a presentation from Intel. On Friday, there is a meeting of the Digital Photographic SIG. Details are below.
Tuesday 22 March - MAIN Meeting -  5:30pm - 8:30pm
We have the AGM at our March Main Meeting, but we also have an excellent presentation lined up for our main meeting attendees!

Intel is coming along to talk about and demonstrate their 2011-range of Core i3, i5 and i7 processors, all of which bring excellent improvements over last year's models and which will be purchased by many consumers over the course of this year.

Codenamed "Sandy Bridge", Intel has not only delivered superior performance, as you'd expect, but has also dramatically improved its built-in graphics capabilities, something that helps to drive down the cost of computing even further.
The thing is - how does Intel do it? What clever technologies have they used to ensure Moore's Law keeps on delivering amazing technological benefits, year after year, despite a succession of claims over the years that Moore's Law might soon stop applying?

And how does Intel "overclock" its processors to deliver its now-famous "Turbo Boost" mode that makes Intel's fastest chips even faster, when overclocking was once a dirty word?

The answers to these questions and more will be unveiled at the next main meeting of the Sydney PC Users Group.

Intel is unlikely to be giving any chips away, sadly, but we will have 3-user license copies of Norton 360 version 5.0 to be won, worth approx $100 each, and hopefully some other simple tech goodies.

So - see you there!
Cheers
Alex.

Friday 25 March - Digital Photography -  P. Collard - 9:30am - 12:30pm
This month the group will discuss how photographs can be watermarked prior to their being uploaded to places like Flickr or PicasaWeb. Peter also has some interesting video photography podcasts to show the group.

In addition, there will be time for the usual question and answer session and the review of the silhouette photos taken by members for this month's photographic exercise.

Cheers,
John
