Hello and Welcome, Next Friday is the day to go to town. There aretwo excellent meeting at the club. The details are below: *Friday 9 September - Seniors - Leader - 9:30am - 12:30pm* Peter Collard will open the meeting with a question and answer session and a discussion of things that involve computers. Roger Foulds will then look in some detail at what two technology websites have to offer - TED and DVICE. TED is a non-profit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment and Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. Along with two annual conferences -- the TED Conference in Long Beach and Palm Springs each spring, and the TEDGlobal conference in Edinburgh UK each summer -- TED includes the award-winning TEDTalks video site, the Open Translation Project and TED Conversations, the inspiring TED Fellows and TEDx programs, and the annual TED Prize. DVICE is part of the SyFy online network and covers an amazing range of topics including, computer hardware, security software, cell phones, household electronics, and vehicles. Click the DVICE logo in the side column to get an idea of what the site offers. *Friday 9 September - Communications - J. Lucke - 12:30pm - 3:30pm* The group will commence the meeting with the usual question and answer session and a general discussion of items of interest. After coffee the group will take a first look at the free Miro video player program which does much more than play videos. As part of the installation process the program has an option that enables it to search for and list all the existing audio and video files located on the computer. Once installed, Miro displays an "Explorer" style interface with folders listed on the left hand side of the screen. These folders include Videos, Music, Podcasts, Playlists and Sources (with many pre-loaded selections such as YouTube & YouTorrent). From that time on you can search for, download and save music, podcasts, videos and catch-up-TV shows to keep you entertained forever!
