Hello and Welcome,
There are meeting
on Tuesday and Friday next week as follows:
Tuesday
21 February - Seniors - G. Grant - 9:30am -
12:30pm
Question and answer sessions
at the Seniors SIGs are deservedly popular for the quantity and quality of
the information exchanged between members and this meeting will start with
such a session.
Graham Grant will then discuss some useful
utilities and give members an opportunity to share their experience
with any new programs they have used.
Tuesday 21 February - Genealogy
- T. Eakin - 12:30pm - 3:30pm
Terry Eakin's main topic for
this meeting is "finding civil registration births in Australia". He will concentrate on
the records of New South Wales but will
look at what is available in the other states and former colonies as well.
If you
are having problems locating information of any children in the
course of your family history research
please bring the details to the
meeting. Terry will do his best to find those hard to find records using resources available on
the Internet rather than on CD ROMs.
Terry
reports that there has been some disappointing news for people researching
the NSW records. The wild card * search can no longer be used in
the NSW databases and the reading room of the Records Authority's office
at Globe Street, The Rocks is closing on June 30 2012. After that
date researchers will have to travel to Kingswood to do their research within
an archives office.
Friday 24 February
- Digital Photography 9:30am - 12:30pm
John Lucke will continue to explore the features in GIMP, a free Image manipulation program, at this meeting. He will show how the program's selection tools can be used to copy, crop, re-colour and enhance part or parts of an image. A question and session will also be held to assist members. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Visitors and new
members are always welcome at meetings,
Cheers,
John
