Technology

Are you tired of the pessimistic economic reports that appear in the media?

Here is a video that exudes optimism about the way technology is being used to benefit humanity.

Annual General Meeting

27 March 2012

The Reports and nomination forms for the Annual General Meeting were attached to last week's Newsletter.

Please speak to a committee member or SIG leader if you would like to contribute to the club's activities as a volunteer.

Hello and Welcome,

The video referred to in the column on the right shows how much technology is changing the world.

As computer technology is the prime focus our club, we have an interesting year ahead as well as a few challenges.

We need to consider whether our club can offer new or improved services to members. We need some more volunteers both on and off the committee. We would also like some new SIG leaders and some more members.

Our President has pointed out in his report that volunteering is a great way to learn and we know that is a fact.

So, what about it! Can you help?

You will not be disappointed if you do.

Next weeks meetings are below:

Tuesday 20 March - Seniors -  G. Grant - 9:30am - 12:30pm
Graham Grant will commence the meeting with the usual question and answer session.

The group will then move on to look at the graphic viewer program, IrfanView, and explore how it can be used.

There should also be time at the meeting for Graham to demonstrate the program, System Explorer.

Guests or new members are always welcome.

Tuesday 20 March - Genealogy -  T. Eakin - 12:30pm - 3:30pm
At this meeting Terry Eakin will broadly cover "Finding Monumental Inscriptions, Burial Registers and Death Records in New South Wales" with a home computer.

He will also show you how to use the information you have located about a family member to:
1. find a service grave and a service record and download it for free; and
2. find a record of death in the indexes and get a copy of the death certificate either from a transcription agent or from the Registrar.

A question and answer session will also provide members with the opportunity for members to explore other family history issues.

Friday 23 March - Digital Photography - 9:30am - 12:30pm
John Lucke will continue with to explore GIMP and using the "Paint Tools" he  will show the basics of how to enhance an image using paint and air brushes, bucket-fill and blending, cloning and more.

This demonstration will follow the usual question and answer and general discussion session.
