Hello and Welcome, Next week's meetings are below: *Tuesday 8 May - Programming - N. Hoffman - 5:30pm - 8:30pm* At their April meeting, the group used Skype to contact Martin in Jakarta. He was able to show them the hotel in which he is installing his Atmel RFID systems. Andrew described using a PIC24 with a C compiler for a data logger and Alex described using Eagle as a PCB design program. Darwin introduced himself and mentioned his use of microprocessors in security applications. Members of the group will demonstrate some new microprocessor applications and programming examples at Tuesday's meeting. Visitors are always welcome. *Friday 11 May - Seniors - 9:30am - 12:30pm* At last month's meeting an "image backup" was made of the club's computer using the backup program in Windows 7. At this meeting, that program will again be used to show how the files from that image can be restored to the computer. *Friday 11 May - Communications - J. Lucke - 12:30pm - 3:30pm* An 8GB USB flash drive, which can be purchased for about $12, has the capacity to hold many files, images or programs that can be used when you are travelling or trying to solve a problem on a friend's computer. Fortunately, there are many small "portable" programs available that can be used on a USB drive. At his month's meeting, John Lucke will discuss the virtues of maintaining a range of small "portable" programs on a USB drive before he explores some of the programs that can be downloaded from the Internet. Members are invited to bring the details of any of their "must have" portable programs they use to the meeting. As usual there will be a questions and answer session at the beginning of the meeting. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Members of the Digital Photography SIG will be interested to learn that the new rules for the ASCCA Photographic Competition for 2012 have been released. They provide for seven different categories of photographs and allow much greater creative freedom. The rules can be seen here.
