Hello and Welcome,
The popular Digital
Photography SIG will meet next Friday and the Main Meeting will be held on
Tuesday.
Alex
Zaharov-Reutt has provided us
with details of the presentation he has arranged for the Main Meeting
and his message is below.
Tuesday 24 July - MAIN
Meeting - 5:30pm - 8:30pm
This
month sees the return of Derek Austin, the Sales Director of Nuance
Communications, makers of the famous Dragon Voice Dictation software that
is almost everywhere - even in most smartphones these days.
I asked
Derek for a description of his presentation, and he sent the following
short comment:
"So
what’s all this about speech recognition?
Derek
Austin will talk about speech technologies in general ranging from the PC
to smart phones to more general applications in call centres and the like.
He’ll give a short talk about the various applications and then throw it
open for discussion."
You'll
be able to find out from Derek just where voice recognition technologies
are today, how much they've evolved since the early days - and as an
amazing bonus, Derek is bringing along two fabulous prizes for our raffle
- a copy of Dragon Home, and a copy of Dragon Premium.
So, see
you at the July Main Meeting of the Sydney PC Users Group!
Alex
Friday 27 July
- Digital Photography - 9:30am -
12:30pm
At this month's meeting the group will enhance some of the
photographs that members have taken for the ASCCA photography competition.
Enhancing could include cropping, colour correction, creating black & white copies
and more using GIMP or FastStone Viewer.
As
always, there will be a general discussion and question and answer session
at the beginning of the meeting.

I would like to thank Roger
Foulds for sending out last week's newsletter. A chest infection
unexpectedly put me in hospital last Friday
and Roger completed the task with little notice. Thanks
Roger!
