Hello and Welcome,
Next week's
meetings are:
Tuesday 21 August - Seniors -
G. Grant - 9:30am - 12:30pm
This month's meeting will start with the
usual question and answer session during which members will have the opportunity
to discuss items of interest. One of these may be chosen for an in depth review.
During
the second half of the meeting Graham Grant will examine Mozilla
Firefox's security and if time permits he will look at a couple of utilities.
Why not start
the day with a Seniors meeting and stay for the Genealogy
SIG?
Tuesday 21 August - Genealogy
- T. Eakin - 12:30pm - 3:30pm
This month Terry
Eakin will explore Trove (from the National Library of Australia) and
some digitised newspapers.
Most of the work will be done on the day using the collective
skills of Terry and some of the more knowledgeable members of the
group. Particular attention will be given to using Trove for both
browsing for information and searching for specific names and
subjects.
As Trove has a facility which enables searchers to concentrate on particular newspapers in a city, regional area or state this aspect will be explored.
Terry has a National Library reader's card so the group will
be able to access a great deal on the day and they even may
correct some scanned articles.
A printer will be available to capture articles,
obituaries, trials and inquests for members who wish to take home copies
of items found.
You are
invited to come along and learn how to master this
exciting resource.
Friday 24 August
- Digital Photography - 9:30am -
12:30pm
It is
time for the group to submit their photographs to the 2012 ASCCA
Photographic Competition.
Members
are requested to bring their selected photos to
the meeting on a memory stick so they can be assembled and submitted as a
group entry.
All the photographs will be reviewed and, if time
allows, some final enhancements may be made to some of them using GIMP.
This meeting
will be the last opportunity for members to get their entries submitted
to the competition. It does not matter whether you enter one or all seven
categories; they all count towards the club prize! The photo
categories and rules are on the ASCCA website.
There will also be a question and answer session
and general discussion at this meeting.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cheers,
John
Mathews
