Hello and Welcome,
Next
week's meetings are
below:
Tuesday 26 February - MAIN
Meeting - 5:30pm - 8:30pm
The Sydney PC Users Group's
February 2013 main meeting is nearly upon us,
with this month's presentation to be all about Microsoft's stunning new Outlook.com webmail service - a massive upgrade to Hotmail. Our guest presenter will be Miriam Romaniuk,
Director of Microsoft
Products and she will be presenting a brief background of Mi9 (the Microsoft/Channel 9 joint venture business) followed by a showcase of Outlook.com and all its new features. On 19 February Microsoft announced that users of
the Hotmail email system
will be automatically upgraded to Outlook.com in the next six months. Miriam says she will "present on this all new
modern, clean UI and the
smart and powerful tools implemented to reduce inbox clutter and stay on top of the things you care about." She will also touch on how Outlook.com connects to
the services you use and
prioritises privacy. So... if you'd like to see what is arguably the
world's most advanced and
most private web mail service, along with all of its quite amazing enhancements, along with your chance to ask all of your questions of Miriam (and in our usual question and answer session), don't miss this February's Main Meeting! See you there!
Alex.
Saturday 2 March - Penrith
Group - F. Bowman - 2:00pm - 5:00pm
There is always an interesting programme of
activities at the Penrith Group meetings. At their last meeting they went
online to:
- peruse reports of the recent Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show; - look at some articles which showed that Windows 8 struggles when installed on older computers; - use Google to seek some free video editors and found that Freemake, VideoPad, VirtualDub and Pinnacle Video Spin received very favourable comments. They also examined an entry level
Audiosonic eBook reader and found it displayed graphics, as well as
eBooks, surprisingly well.
At this month's meeting they will
- examine and discuss the specifications of the miniature Raspberry Pi computer; - look at a useful utility called WinDirStat that graphically displays the size of all files on a partition; and - examine some of the features of Microsoft Publisher. There will also be a question and
answer session around the table, where members share problems, advice and
tips.
The Penrith SIG meets at St Clair High
School, Endeavour Avenue, St Clair and visitors are always
welcome. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cheers,
John
Mathews
