Hello and Welcome,
There are another three interesting meetings for
club members next week and the details are below.
Tuesday 9 July- Programming - N.
Hoffman - 5:30pm - 8:30pm
At the June meeting Andrew S told us of the
computer setup he made with a Raspberry Pi, the $35 credit-card sized
computer available from RS and Element 14. He fitted a TV screen and a
keyboard to a Pi to make a cheap desktop computer.
Martin showed a moisture sensing set up using his Raspberry Pi. The Pi lacks an analog/digital converter so he connected its serial port to a microcontroller, the Atmel AVR that has several of them. The AVR was then connected to a moisture sensor and its readings were digitised by the AVR and displayed on a web-page by the Pi's web-server. David showed samples of the range of plug-in boards he has developed, similar to the Arduino shields, but pluggable to any PCB. Alex continued his tutorial on Windows 8, and has
now expanded it to a web page at alexw.webhop.net/electronics.
Members of the group will demonstrate some new
microprocessor applications and programming examples at Tuesday's
meeting.
Neville Hoffman Friday 12 July - Seniors - 9:30am
for 10am - 12:30pm
The program, "Handbrake", is a very useful tool
for converting video from nearly any format to a selection of modern
widely used codecs.
The range of formats the program can handle and way it converts video files will be demonstrated at this meeting. A question and answer session will also be held to
discuss computer problems and issues.
Friday 12 July - Communications -
J. Lucke - 12:30pm for 1pm - 3:30pm
After a general question and answer session, John
Lucke will discuss some of Feedly's "Todays" featured articles
regarding Computer Help, Freeware and Security.
After the coffee break, MailStore version 8 will
be installed on the club's computer and set it up to archive the
club’s email accounts and emails.
If time allows, John will install the “Fences”
desktop application that automatically sorts a cluttered desktop into
appropriate groups using semi-transparent tiles (fences) which provide
quick and easy access to programs.
