Hello and Welcome,
Alex
Zaharov-Reutt has obtained another interesting presenter for the Main Meeting
on Tuesday and the Digital Photographic SIG meets on Friday. Alex's message is
below.
Tuesday 24 June - Main Meeting - 5:30pm for
5:45pm - 8:30pm
It’s the last month of the
financial year, and the eve of the next, but before this financial year is
over, our jolly, pre-July, June Main Meeting is yet to get set - which it
will, wonderfully, with your attendance!
Our special guest presenter this month is Mark
Parker, the general manager of Livescribe in Australia, makers of the
world’s most advanced, yet affordable, technological writing instrument
that GQ Magazine says is to pens like iPhones are to phones.
That is to say, of course, that this is one heck
of an amazing pen, able to record everything you write, and even hear, and
save it to your computer, smartphone, tablet, along with full online
access through well-known services such as Evernote and
OneNote.
Not only can it make audio recordings of the
meetings you're taking notes of, but you can also have those notes synced
to the audio, so when you’re going back through your notes, you can hear
exactly what was being said at the moment you wrote down important
points.
Livescribe have several versions of the Livescribe
pen, with the newest being the Livescribe 3, the model we will see
demonstrated at our main meeting, although we’re sure to hear about the
other models available, too.
Winner of the prestigious 2014 Red Dot Design
award, the Livescribe 3 takes the humble pen out of the last few millennia
and puts it firmly into the 21st, with the marriage of digital and ink a
must-see inkling of what life could be like - if and when you decide to
own one!
The best way to experience it all for yourself is
to come along to the SPCUG’s June Main Meeting, where someone should also
be winning one of the Livescribe models in our trusty raffle.
So… if you want to see what the pen of the future
can deliver today, then pop into the SPCUG’s time machine - located, as
always, in the Mitchell Theatre,
Level 1, School of Mechanics and Arts - Tuesday
June 24!
See you then,
Cheers
Alex. Friday 27 June
- Digital Photography - 9:30am -
12:30pm
GIMP is an excellent program
which photographers can use to manipulate their photographs.
The program is versatile
and its features are comprehensive but it takes a little time and effort
to learn how to get the best out its many tools.
At this meeting the group
will take another look at how GIMP can be used to improve their
photographs.
There will also be a general
question and answer session to discuss computer and photographic
issues.
