Hello and Welcome,

Details of next week's meetings are below:

Tuesday 17 February - Tuesday Forum - T Kelly - 9:30am - 12:30pm
At this meeting Tim Kelly will continue to look at some of the less well known but very useful free computer programs.

Tim will also demonstrate a number of shortcuts and tips that will help improve a computer's productivity.

There will be a question and answer session at the meeting to assist any members who may be experiencing problems with their computers or software.

Tuesday 17 February - Family History - T Eakin - 12:30pm - 3:30pm
At this meeting Terry Eakin will be researching NSW Convict Ancestry with special emphasis being given to the Convict Indents and records.

Terry and the group members will be happy to discuss any questions members may have about their own family history research at the meeting.

Saturday 21 February - Web Design - S South - 1:30pm - 4:30pm
This meeting will be all about images and how to get an image on a web page.

Steve South will look briefly at the mechanics of the HTML code and how it works. That will be followed by a discussion of what is needed to prepare images for the web. This has become more complex as many of the new devices being used have different screen sizes and images need to be developed that will work on all of those screens. There are a few methods and ways to make images responsive and these will be discussed at the meeting.

Answers also need to be found to such questions as “What resolution should we use”, "What size do we make the image?”, “Do we need more than one copy of the image?”, “What do I do if I can’t afford Photoshop?” and “What other software is available”?

Solutions to some of these questions may be found in the programs, GIMP and PAINT NET, two very good free replacements for Photoshop, Fireworks and the other expensive photo processors. Both programs will be used to edit and prepare a few photos for use on a web site during the meeting and these will be used to make a simple photo gallery using Expression Web.

Members should feel free to bring some images to the meeting as there may get an opportunity to experiment with them as well.
