Hello and Welcome,
Details of
next week's meetings are
below.
Tuesday 21 April - Tuesday Forum -
T Kelly - 9:30am - 12:30pm
With the
move toward smaller lighter laptops, netbooks and Chromebooks the
inclusion of an inbuilt DVD-CD drive is becoming increasingly rare. This
raises the problem of how the Windows operating system and other computer
programs contained on CDs or DVDs can be installed on these devices.
At this meeting Tim Kelly will demonstrate how DVDs and CDs can be made into software “virtual disks” called ISO files and run on “virtual drives” on a computer. Tim will also show how USB flash drives can be used as a “virtual disks” to store a bootable version of the Windows operating system or other computer programs. As always the group will look at some interesting
websites and free software and have a question and answer session.
Tuesday 21 April - Family
History - T Eakin - 12:30pm - 3:30pm
This
meeting will be about Cemeteries, Gravestone Inscriptions, Burial
Registers and Associated Records.
How often
have you wished you had asked more questions of your parents, grandparents
and their siblings about their knowledge of their family history when they
were alive?
Sometimes
family history clues can be found on gravestone inscriptions or by
observing the names on nearby gravestones or the state of care of the
burial plot. You may also find fresh flowers and a card on a grave that is
visited around Mother's Day and that may lead you to someone you do not
know or have never contacted.
Terry
Eakin will explore all avenues of burial and cremation research with
the main focus being on New South Wales and Australia but he will also
briefly discuss the records that can be located in United Kingdom and elsewhere.
Some
people may have family members who were casualties during World War I or
World War II and whose remains were interred overseas or were not
recovered. As their names may be recorded on a memorial located in France,
Turkey, Egypt or the United Kingdom Terry will also discuss how these
records may be located as well.
There will
be a question and answer session during the meeting.
Friday 24 April
- Digital Photography - 9:30am -
12:30pm
At this
meeting the group will discuss how PowerPoint or Libre Office Impress
presentations can be made into videos.
There will
also be a general discussion of items of interest to photographers and a
question and answer session.
