Hello and Welcome,

Details of next week's meetings are below.

Tuesday 11 August - Programming - N Hoffman - 5:30pm - 8:30pm
Members of this group meet each month to discuss microprocessor project design and microprocessor programming.

Some of the projects that members have developed are displayed at these meetings.

Summaries of many of the previous meetings can be seen at: http://www.sesame.com.au/picclub

The members will have some new microprocessor applications and programming examples at Tuesday's meeting.

Friday 14 August - Friday Forum - 9:30am - 12:30pm
Open Source Software

Free open source alternatives to Microsoft's Windows and programs such as Office, PowerPoint, Movie Maker and Adobe's PDF Reader are now available.

At this meeting Roger Foulds will discuss the open source operating systems and programs that can be used in place of some well-known proprietary products.
Many of these are free or, in some instances, userscan be invited to give a donation to the developer.

The usual question and answer session will be held at the meeting.

Friday 14 August - Communications - 12:30pm - 3:30pm
Microsoft Windows 10 is the hot topic at the moment.

At this meeting the members will look at some of the features of Windows 10 and discuss how and when they might like to install it on their computers.

A question and answer session will also be held at the meeting.

Saturday 15 August - Web Design - S South - 1:30pm - 4:30pm
At last month's meeting the group started to look at a SitePoint tutorial on building a modern single page website which was made available to subscribers and others on the SitePoint newsletter. They will tackle the tutorial and build a site as an exercise at this meeting.

This month the group will view a video on "new methodology" which describes the new ideas on webpage layout and design and look at the first practical tutorial.

The group may also look at the subject of RSS. RSS is a feed that enables a subscriber's browser to constantly monitor a website and either inform the subscriber of the availability of new information or automatically download it from the site.

The members will look at what is involved in making an RSS feed, what free readers are available and discuss the pros and cons of setting up and using an RSS feed.
