Hello and Welcome,
Details
of next week's meetings are
below.
Tuesday 17 November
- Tuesday Forum - 9:30am - 12:30pm
The
Internet is truly a wonderful thing and the range of tasks that can be
undertaken online is extraordinary.
Nevertheless, being online is not without its risks
and at this meeting Bryan McDonald will discuss how you can stay safe when
you use the Internet.
A
question and answer session and general discussion will also be available
for members at the meeting.
Tuesday 17 November - Family
History - T Eakin - 12:30pm - 3:30pm
Photographs from the Sydney studios of Charles
Kerry and Henry King will be the main topic of discussion at this
month's meeting including a collection of photographs of World War 1 soldiers.
Not all
the names of the soldiers held in two separate databases are known and
only limited information about the photographs is available free. However,
full family data can be purchased and it is believed that it will be
available without cost within a year or two.
A
secondary topic for the meeting will be the "Snapshot of Britain taken on
3 September 1939 before the bombs from Germany hit in World War 2".
Saturday 21 November
- Web Design - S South - 1:30pm -
4:30pm
For
several months the Web Design group has been following a free course from
Sitepoint, a professional forum
which has loads of free reference guides and articles.
Sitepoint also sells books and courses. One course,
“Build
your first web site: HTML & CSS”, is free and comes with
transcripts and code examples.
At this
month's meeting the group members will do some practical work based on the
information in the course to build a basic site. They will also look
at ways to adapt the code used in the course for their own web site designs.
As this
will be the last meeting for the year the group will discuss what they
could do next year.
