What we did

July 2021 :Learning to Code

This month we looked at a site that teaches coding using games. Its called CodingGame and to quote the site “At CodinGame, our goal is to let programmers keep on improving their coding skills by solving the World's most challenging problems, learn new concepts, and get inspired by the best developers.”

Its free and you can learn most languages. First you run through a tutorial that looks at the if statement and applies it to a shot up game by asking you to insert the code within the program.

Once you past the tutorial you are off and running.

CodingGame also comes with Discord. This is thr front pageof my Discord account.

Discord server front page

Disorc is a free personal server you can use to talk and share code information and chat with others you invite onto the server. I note that the SMSA were we meet has an introduction video on their Niche Academy site.

We then visted an image management site called Image Kit.

Image Kit Front Page

It’s designed for image optimisation, resizing  etc. It turned out to be a bit more professional than we though in that the images are kept on their server which you link too.

Thanks to John L and Bob we also had a look at the difference between Unicode and ASCII.

Here are some of the links we look at.

Difference Between Unicode and ASCII (A good simple summary)
American Standard Code for Information Interchange The complete table of ASCII characters, letters, codes, symbols and signs.
List of Unicode characters  (Some of 143,859 characters)
Unicode block (International languages and dialects)
This page summarizes the important changes for the Unicode Standard, Version 13.0.0.
