What we did

November 2022

Thid month we had a breif look at some of he software availabel free if you have a web hosting plan that incudeds C-Panel. We looked paid attention to the social network apps in particualer.

What better place to start than our own hosting service. The first one we looked at was Elgg. It's discribed as "an open source drop-in social collaboration platform for any organisation".

Here is a YouTube video on what it does, and the documentation on how to use it.

Next we looked at Jcow. It allows you to create a complete social networking website, provideding member role management, notifications and even allows ads management.

Finally we looked at UNA. To quote the site "The name UNA stands for Unified Networking Applications. UNA is not just a single application, but an extensive ecosystem of web applications, databases, server apps, and supporting infrastructure that enables you to create a community website tailored to your needs."

All these application are avalable free on from our host via C-Panel. That make instilation very easy, with one click and maybe some information to set up a MSqlL database.
