What we did August 2023
Spaces, the new web site hosting from W3 Schools
This month we looked at a new free web site hosting from our old mates W3Schools. It's called Spaces. We all know schools as a great source of free web coding instruction. Now they offer web site hosting as well. There are four levels of cover a basic free site and three levels of paid cover from $4.99 to $29.99.
I created a site to test it and we created one during the Web Design meeting.
How to use
You go to spaces and click on “get a space”. You need an e-mail and password, that gets you an account with W3 Schools. You need to create a name for your site and select a template. I spent hours thinking the name I had chosen was taken as the “create” button remained greyed out. The problem was simply that had not chosen an template.
When you log-in you see your “My Learning” dashboard.

To edit the site, click spaces and it goes to the edit page.

Our site is spctug-webdesign.w3spaces.com.

One of the interesting ideas is that you can use the code from the schools to create your site. So, we added a short menu using the Top Navigation Bar example.
